Privacy policy

What we collect, and why

• Your interview answers — names, dates, addresses, and estate values about the person who died, you, and the people who inherit. Why: this is exactly what the official court forms require. We ask for nothing the forms and filing steps don't need.
• Your email address — to sign you in (email links, no passwords), save your progress, and deliver your documents.
• Purchase records — what you bought and when. Payment happens at Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
• Basic visit counts on our public pages — privacy-first analytics with no cookies, no personal profiles, and no tracking inside the interview at all.

Consent

You give us this information yourself, to prepare your documents — that is the only purpose we use it for. If we ever wanted to use it for anything else, we would ask you first, plainly.

Where your information lives

Our database runs in Canada (a Canadian data-centre region). Sensitive fields are encrypted a second time inside the database, with keys kept separately. Connections are always encrypted. Two service providers see limited data to do their jobs: our payment processor (Stripe) and our email provider (Resend, for sign-in links and receipts). Those two providers may process the little they see — your email address, and your payment at Stripe — on servers outside Canada, where the laws of those countries apply. Your interview answers never go to either of them.

How long we keep it

• Unfinished interviews: deleted after 12 months of no activity.
• Purchased packages: kept 12 months so you can re-download and use our promise, then deleted.
• Purchase records: kept as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

• See it: ask, and we'll show you the personal information we hold about you.
• Fix it: anything wrong, we correct.
• Delete it: the delete button on the account page is real — it removes your data immediately and permanently, including from our systems' working copies. Old backup copies are deleted on a set schedule.

What we never do

• Sell your information. Ever. The only thing that ever goes to an ad company is the anonymous click number described below — never your name, email, or answers.
• Run advertising trackers, social-media pixels, or session recorders.
• Put personal information in our logs.
• Email you marketing without your clear yes. Sign-in links and receipts are the only must-send emails.

We count steps, not people

To find out where we lose people, we count how many visitors open our pages — including our free guides — press the start button, pick an answer on the first questions, reach each step of the interview, ask for a sign-in link, and sign in — a number goes up by one, and that is all. When a visit comes from one of our ads, we count that landing too, so we know which counts came from ads. The count has no name, no email, no answers, and nothing that can point back at you. It lives on our own server in Canada. No outside analytics company is involved.

If you arrive from an ad

Sometimes we run ads on search engines. If you click one, the ad company adds a click number to the link. We remember that number in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere, and no ad company code runs on our site. If you later buy, we tell the ad company its ad led to a sale, using only that number. The number does not say who you are. We never send them your name, your email, or any of your answers.

If you arrive from a partner's link

Some organizations share a link to us that carries a short partner code. We remember that code in your browser the same way — nothing is sent anywhere, and no partner code runs on our site. If you later buy, our own purchase record notes the code so we can thank the partner. The code names the partner's link, not you. The partner never sees your name, your email, or any of your answers — only that their link led to a sale.

If something goes wrong

If a privacy breach ever created a real risk of significant harm to you, we would notify you and the Privacy Commissioner promptly, and tell you plainly what happened and what we're doing about it.
