Probate is the court's stamp of approval. It certifies who is allowed to handle a person's estate. Banks and the land registry often ask for it before they release money or transfer a home. In Ontario the official paper is called a Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee.

No. Ontario lets you apply on your own. Many estates are straightforward: a signed will, an adult family, ordinary assets. Our software handles those. When an estate is not straightforward, our questions catch it and tell you to see a lawyer — before you pay.

A fair question — check us, don't take our word. ProbatePrep is run by NeuraBuild Solutions Inc., a registered Ontario company: you can search that name in the Ontario Business Registry, free. Our forms match the court's own website, ontariocourtforms.on.ca — go compare. Payment happens on Stripe's secure page (checkout.stripe.com), never on a page we control, and we never see your card number. We will never ask for your Social Insurance Number, a bank login, or any password. And a real person answers support@probateprep.ca within one business day.

You would lose nothing. Your package is ordinary files saved on your own device — it works forever and needs nothing from us. Your answers and packages on our servers are deleted on a fixed schedule anyway: unfinished interviews after 12 months of no activity, purchased packages 12 months after purchase. And you can delete everything yourself right now, with the delete button on the account page. It really deletes.

It varies a lot by courthouse and by season — from a few weeks to several months. What you control is filing a complete, correct application, because applications with errors get sent back to the end of the line. That is the part we help you get right.

Estates worth $150,000 or less can use a simpler court process with shorter forms. There is one extra timing rule: you must send the application to the people who inherit at least 30 days before you file it. Our $199 + HST package handles all of this.

Nothing on the first $50,000. Above that, $15 for every $1,000 (a part of a $1,000 counts as a full one). A $240,000 estate pays $2,850. Try our free calculator to see your number.

Then we say so — early and clearly. No will, a child who inherits, a handwritten will, family conflict, an applicant living outside Canada: our questions detect these and stop, free of charge, with a plain explanation of what kind of professional to look for.

Yes. Co-executors are supported: the interview asks about each of you, and the forms carry both names the way the court expects. If one named executor wants to step aside instead, the package includes the form for that too.

The interview is free, and you pay only at the moment your finished package is delivered — so there is no gap between paying and getting what you paid for. If something is wrong with our documents, our promise is to fix and rebuild them free. We do not offer automatic money-back refunds after delivery, but if you believe something is genuinely wrong, email support and a person will look at it — case by case, honestly. If it comes back because of a fixable error in documents we generated, we fix them and regenerate your package free — that is our Fix-It-Free Promise. Email support with the court’s note and we reply within one business day.

$199 for a small estate or $449 standard, plus sales tax — for an Ontario buyer that is $224.87 or $507.37 total. Two costs are separate and never come to us: the estate tax, paid to the court when you file (our free calculator shows your number), and small things like printing or a certified cheque. Yes, when the person who died lived in Ontario. The application goes to the Ontario courthouse for where they lived, and that is what we prepare. If you live in Canada but outside Ontario, you can still apply — your papers can be sworn with an Ontario commissioner by video. If you live outside Canada, our questions catch that and tell you honestly, before you pay, that your situation needs a professional.
