The Superior Court of Justice handles probate in Ontario. You file at its courthouse for the county or district where the person who died lived — not where you live. The list on this page shows the locations we have checked, with each one's address, phone, and filing email.
The rules that apply everywhere
- ✓Ontario courts take probate applications by email. Keep each email under 35 pages of attachments and under 35 MB. Bigger? Split it into "Email 1 of 2", "Email 2 of 2".
- ✓The original will must reach the court on paper — take it in, or send it by mail or courier. Confirm the details with your courthouse before you send anything.
- ✓Courts say applications are usually looked at within about 15 business days. Busy offices can take longer. Nobody can promise a date.
